Canned soup
While it might be convenient to open a can of soup for lunch doing so may help you pack on extra kilos.
Canned Soup is loaded with sodium, when you eat high sodium foods, your body has a hard time determining when it is full causing you to eat more than you should or be hungry relatively quickly after finishing your meal. If you want to eat canned soup, then, at least buy the low sodium kind.
The best choice would be one of our yummy healthy homemade SOUP recipes from the 28 Day Weight Loss Challenge like this Roast pumpkin soup or Chicken noodle soup.
Canned fruit
Another food that sounds healthy, but isn’t necessarily is canned fruit. Most of them are loaded with tons of sugar and come laden with syrup. If you absolutely cannot live without it, at least buy the fruit canned with natural fruit juice. ALTERNATIVELY, our delicious fruit smoothie bowl is much healthier.
Salted nuts
Although nuts are a great protein source, salted nuts can be your biggest enemy. They are sooooo morish! You continue to reach for handful after handful and before you know it, you’ve consumed more than your daily amount of calories. Try unsalted raw nuts and watch your portion or try making your own nut butter from raw nuts without the added salt, and use it on celery or crackers for a great protein snack.
Deli meats
Amanda Dos Santos, experienced Nutritionist, food scientist and writer with over 10 years of experience in the Heath industry points out that processed meats are really a “sometimes’ food”.
“A sometimes’ food is one which you can have it every now and then.
“Your best bet is having red fresh meats and other good protein sources that are high in iron and other vitamins and minerals. Swap out the ham in a sandwich for some tuna or chicken. If you like sausage, try meatballs instead.
Amanda adds, “If you are going to eat ham, bacon, pepperoni or chorizo, do so, enjoy it, but do not have it every day.”

Just because you’re eating a healthy salad doesn’t mean that you can load it up with high-fat high-calorie salad dressing and call it even. Stick with olive oil and vinegar or lemon when you can, or at least choose the low-calorie dressings.
Or better yet, make your own healthy version. Try our delicious Thai satay dressing.
Tomato sauce
Tomato sauce is often loaded with sugar and or salt. You are best to make your own or buy the brands that offer reduced amounts of the substances you want less of in your diet.
Ice Cream
Ice cream is incredibly delicious, but very unhealthy. It is high in calories, and most types are loaded with sugar.
A small portion of ice cream is fine every now and then, but the problem is that it’s very easy to consume massive amounts in one sitting.
Consider making your own ice cream, using less sugar and healthier ingredients like full-fat yogurt and fruit.

White rice, pasta and flour
The fibre in brown rice and pasta is much easier to digest and it also makes your stomach feel fuller quicker, which means you’re more likely to eat a smaller portion.
