Budget Friendly Family Meals

We are always looking for family friendly meals that also fit into our budget. With two kids at home, it can sometimes be a challenge to find a dish that meets the following criteria –

  • easy to prepare
  • a few, simple ingredients
  • budget friendly
  • delicious and balanced

Adding Flavor with Cheese

A simple way to add flavor to meals is by adding cheese. Here at The Domestic Dietitian, we are big fans of Cabot Cheese. Their cheeses have an amazing flavor and you’ll find that a little goes a long way.

One of our goals is to always work and support small businesses that show compassion and value their employees. We love that Cabot is a cooperative owned by 800 farm families throughout New England and New York. 100% of the profits from Cabot go back to those farmers.

In addition to having compassion, Cabot Cheese also makes some darn good cheese! If you aren’t familiar with Cabot Cheese, we think you’ll appreciate knowing that all Cabot Cheddars are naturally –

  • aged
  • lactose-free
  • gluten free

In addition to a full line of cheeses, Cabot also makes Greek yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese, butter and whey protein.

Cooking tip – be sure to pinch the rolls firmly together at the edges to ensure no mixture leaks out during cooking.

Budget Friendly Tips –

  • This recipe is perfect for leftover chicken breast that’s already been cooked or even rotisserie chicken from the store
  • If broccoli isn’t in season, you could easily use frozen broccoli, just be sure to fully thaw and drain excess moisture first
  • To save time, you can premix the diced chicken, chopped broccoli and shredded Vermont Sharp Cheddar from Cabot Cheese beforehand so at dinner time all you have to is stuff the cresent rolls and bake
