Plant Based Smoothies
In an effort to get our family to eat a bit more fruits and veggies, we developed this Pomegranate Chia Smoothie.
Made with just a few simple ingredients, it’s a quick and simple recipe that’s perfect for busy mornings. Or afternoons. Or Snacks. Or whenever you feel like a smoothie.
What plants are in this smoothie you may ask…
- 100% Pomegranate Juice
- 1/2 Frozen Banana
- Chia Seeds
There has been so much research on the health benefits of pomegranate juice. Not to mention we love the tart flavor it adds to so many recipes.

Chia seeds are a little seed that packs a mighty punch. They come from the desert plant Salvia hispanica, which is a relative to mint.
Did you know that Chia Seeds are a good source of Omega 3 fatty acids? They also contain fiber, protein, iron, calcium, zinc and magnesium.
As part of a healthy diet, research is potentially supporting a link between chia seeds and a decreased risk of heart disease due to their effects on lowering cholesterol, blood pressure and triglycerides.
The secret to adding them to this smoothie is that you add them at the end, when it’s all blended up. Then you have to let the seeds sit and thicken up the smoothie.
Tossing 1/2 a frozen banana in the blender makes this smoothie so thick and creamy. Not to mention a bit of vitamins and minerals, like potassium.
Just make sure you peel the banana before placing it in the freezer. We learned that one the hard way.

Chia Pomegranate Smoothie
Just a few simple ingredients and this plant based Chia Pomegranate Smoothie will wake up your taste buds and become a go to breakfast.
- 1/2 cup 100% Pomegranate Juice (POM Wonderful is our favorite)
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 1/4 cup greek yogurt, plain
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
In a blender, add the pomegranate juice, frozen banana, and greek yogurt. Blend until smooth.
Add the chia seeds and stir to combine. Let the smoothie stand in the fridge for 3-5 minutes to thicken.
