Are you wondering how to make protein waffles? It’s so EASY! This high protein waffle recipe (aka protein powder waffles) is just 8 ingredients and ready in less than 10 minutes! You can make a filling, easy protein waffle recipe in less time than it takes to brew your coffee.
If you want your waffles to really satisfy, adding protein is a must. My protein of choice for these waffles is Paleovalley Bone Broth Protein: It’s made from 100% grass-fed cows and gently simmered to create the cleanest protein powder for waffles (or anywhere you need a protein boost!).
What Are Protein Waffles?
Protein waffles are waffles that are made with protein powder. There are many different versions, but this one features a squeaky-clean protein source that helps support gut health, strong hair and nails, and limber joints. Plus, there are only 8 ingredients total, making them super easy. (!!!)
I happen to think they are the best protein waffles out there.
Why You’ll Love This High Protein Waffle Recipe
- Nutty vanilla flavor
- Fluffy inside with crispy outside
- Easy prep (just blend and cook!)
- Ready in minutes
- High in clean, satisfying protein
Protein Powder Waffles Ingredients
This section explains how to choose the best ingredients for protein powder waffles, what each one does in the recipe, and substitution options. For measurements, see the recipe card below.
- Paleovalley Grass Fed Bone Broth Protein – All the benefits of bone broth in a neutral protein powder! Unlike others, this one is tested to have zero traces of pesticides and no GMOs, soy, dairy, or gluten.
- Peanut butter – Get a creamy, natural variety with no sugar added. For a nut-free option, sunflower butter should also work. Make sure that the nut butter you use is THICK and creamy; runny kinds don’t work as well in this protein waffle recipe.
- Coconut oil – Choose unrefined for a slight coconutty taste, or refined for no coconut flavor — just make sure it’s the kind that will solidify at room temperature. Butter is also fine as a substitute.
- Eggs – They help keep these healthy protein waffles intact — while adding even more protein!
- Vanilla extract – Adds aromatic vanilla flavor to the protein waffle mix.
- Besti Monk Fruit Allulose Blend – Adds sweet flavor and dissolves easily into the high protein waffle batter.
- Baking powder – Makes easy protein waffles extra fluffy!
- Sea salt – Balances the sweet flavor.
How To Make Protein Waffles
This section shows how to make protein powder waffles with step-by-step photos and details about the technique. For full instructions, see the recipe card below.
- Blend. Blend together Paleovalley Bone Broth Protein, creamy peanut butter, melted coconut oil, eggs, baking powder, and sea salt, until smooth and creamy.
TIP: Make sure all your ingredients are at room temperature. Cold eggs can solidify the melted coconut oil and make a chunky batter.
- Cook. Cook the batter in your waffle iron. Most waffle irons cook up waffles pretty quickly, but particularly for this recipe, they cook EXTRA FAST. My waffle maker usually takes 4-5 minutes for almond flour waffles, but this protein waffle recipe takes only 2-3 minutes.
TIP: When are they done? Waffles are done cooking when steam is no longer coming out the sides of the waffle iron, but check earlier, once you see the steam starts to decrease.
- Cool slightly. The waffles come out of the waffle maker soft, but as they cool from hot to warm, they will crisp up on the outside AND the inner texture will improve. It’s worth the wait of a few minutes!
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you put protein powder in waffles?
Yes! Adding protein powder to waffles is one of the easiest ways to make a classic breakfast recipe more satisfying.
Are protein waffles healthy?
Yes, protein powder waffles are healthy! Unlike traditional waffles that are made with refined flours and sugars, this protein waffle is stuffed with healthy and filling ingredients. They are sure to keep you satisfied until lunch.
In addition to all of the protein that won’t leave you hungry, they’ve also got plenty of healthy fats and a good dose of fiber, too. So it’s got everything a healthy meal needs, AND it tastes great.
Can you make this protein waffle recipe ahead?
You can and should make this protein waffle recipe ahead of time. I like to make up a big batch of batter, make the waffles, and then store them in the freezer for quick low carb breakfasts.
Pro Tip: Always double the batch to make a few servings at once, you’ll save time and it’s a great way to meal prep breakfasts.
What to put on protein powder waffles?
If you don’t want a plain waffle, a pat of grass-fed butter and a drizzle of sugar-free syrup never hurt anyone! And ripe strawberries add a fresh, juicy flavor that is a favorite in our house.
Why are my protein waffles dry?
Your protein powder waffle recipe can cook up dry if you over-measured your protein powder or under-measured your wet ingredients. Make sure you measure each one accurately!
Storage Instructions
Cool waffles completely and store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week.
How to freeze protein powder waffles?
Can you prepare protein waffles frozen? Yes! Protein powder waffles freeze up really nicely. After cooking them, cool them completely and then put into a freezer bag with parchment paper in between layers so they don’t stick.
You can also put them in a single layer on a sheet pan, freeze them, and then store them in a freezer bag until you’re ready to eat.
Reheating instructions:
Place high protein waffles in the toaster or warm oven until heated through.
