When Dan and I participated in Dry January last month, we each found a few favorite mocktail recipes to enjoy. Most of the time we just drank water or hot tea, but there were certain nights when we wanted something a little more festive.
I’m a huge fan of anything that is grapefruit flavored. I love the sweet and tartness of it. It’s like Orange Juice 2.0.
Rather than just enjoying a grapefruit flavored sparkling water, I wanted to come up with an easy drink recipe that was made with simple ingredients. If you make the simple syrup in advance, this drink comes together in less than one minute!

Making your own Grapefruit Sparkling Water Drink
Just 3 ingredients are needed for this flavorful mocktail –
- plain sparkling water
- fresh squeezed grapefruit juice
- simple syrup
If you’ve never made a simple syrup, it’s easy and works great in many cocktails and/or cocktails. Simply place 1/2 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of water in a small saucepan. Over medium heat, stir until the sugar is dissolved into the water. Let cool and then store leftover in fridge.
You could easily used store bought grapefruit juice or grapefruit flavored sparkling water but I like the idea of controlling the ingredients and using the freshest of foods.

Grapefruit Sparkling Water
This easy and flavorful, make it yourself Grapefruit Sparkling Water is refreshing and a wonderful mocktail recipe.
- 4 oz sparkling water
- 1 oz fresh squeeze grapefruit juice
- 1/2 oz simple syrup
Fill a glass with ice, add the sparkling water, grapefruit juice and simple syrup. Mix well, taste and add more juice/simple syrup as needed
Optional Garnish – fresh grapefruit sections and mint

So maybe “fun” is a stretch, but the grapefruit is a great addition to your diet. Did you know that it’s a cross between a pomelo and an orange? It’s only called a grapefruit because it grows in clusters, similar to grapes.
Great source of Vitamin A and C – which is good for immunity and skin. Grapefruit are also high in flavonoids, which are compounds found in citrus fruits that may reduce risk of stroke in women.
Grapefruits also have a great impact on heart health because they contain fiber, potassium, lycopene and Vitamin C.
