There are few teas quite as satisfying as chai tea. It is one that most people enjoy, even if they aren’t usually a tea drinker!

Every once in a while, I will get a craving for a strong cup of chai tea, especially if it is feeling a little chilly outside. It is the perfect thing to warm you up inside and help you relax on a busy day or to wind down at night.

This keto chai tea is a simple and low-carb recipe that you can easily make at home when you’re craving a special drink.

Note: Not really into chai? Consider trying this iced matcha green tea or this bulletproof tea!

Ingredients Needed To Make Masala Chai Tea

This low-carb recipe is made with ingredients that fit your keto lifestyle while still maintaining the delicious flavors of chai tea.

Masala Spice Mix

The spice blend gives the tea that traditional spiced flavor that most everyone loves. It contains ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and more and is available in my store here.

Coconut Or Almond Milk

Use your favorite milk alternative to add to the recipe. I suggest either coconut or almond milk as they result in the rich creaminess you’d expect with a chai tea drink.

Sweetener

The sugar substitute helps make this keto chai tea taste like the real thing without being too heavy in carbs.

My favorite to use is monk fruit sweetener as it tastes the closest to traditional sugar in my opinion.

Please note: Check out the recipe card at the bottom for a full list of ingredients used to make this low-carb recipe.

Quick Tips:

  • For a very flavorful masala chai tea, try adding in additional spices such as cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
  • If you want a stronger tea, you can brew it for a few minutes longer to extract even more flavor.
  • You can froth your milk with an immersion blender or a normal blender for a fancy keto masala chai. You could also whisk it by hand to froth it up.
  • If you want to have this delicious chai tea on hand, you can always make it ahead of time. It will last in the fridge for up to two days.

How To Make Keto Chai Tea

Making keto chai tea at home is very simple and won’t take much time at all. All of the ingredients and steps to make are in the recipe card below.

Add Dry Ingredients

First, place loose leaf tea, spice blend, and sweetener into a teapot or tea infuser. This would be the time to add extra spices suggested in the quick tips above if you choose to use any.

Pour In Water And Milk

Heat your water and coconut or almond milk and pour over the tea ingredients.

Allow To Steep

This is the longest part of the process, but it’s only 3-5 minutes (or more for a stronger tea.) Steep everything until the liquid has darkened in color and become fragrant.

Strain Tea

All you need to do is pour the tea through a strainer and into your cup! Now it’s time to enjoy your chai masala tea right inside your home!

You can add additional toppings or spices if you’d like to add some variety to your cup.

Frequently Asked Questions About Keto Chai Masala Tea

Here are some of the most popular questions we get about this tea.

Is chai tea keto?

Chai tea can certainly be keto-friendly if it is made with a few adjustments. To make it low-carb, you will need to replace cow’s milk with another milk option. You’ll also need to find a replacement for sugar to reduce carbs.

What’s the difference between chai tea vs masala tea vs chai latte?

Masala means spice, and chai means tea. All of these drinks by either name are very similar.

By definition, chai tea is simply black tea and milk. Masala tea, however, contains those same ingredients but has spices added as well.

What is referred to as a chai latte is very similar to a masala tea, only it is much sweeter and usually made with syrup.

Can I make this keto chai tea iced?

You can certainly adapt this keto chai tea to make it iced instead of hot. Chai tea makes a delicious cold tea as well as hot, depending on your personal preference.

All you will need to do is let the tea become chilled after brewing and straining, then add in some ice.
