In addition to taking in a wide range of exhibits on farming and innovation, visitors to this year’s Royal Norfolk Show (June 29th-30th) will have the opportunity to gain a quick free personal health check as part of their visit.
Representatives of MAN v FAT will be on hand at the Norfolk Showground in Norwich quick mini-health checks for any adult, looking at height and weight and providing a BMI check.
Your BMI, or Body Mass Index, is a measure of your weight compared to your height. Your BMI can indicate you are underweight, have a healthy weight, are overweight or obese. If your BMI is outside of the healthy range, your health risks can increase significantly.
“We are hoping to engage with as many visitors as we can during the course of the show,” says MAN v FAT Challenge Lead, Ben Middleton.
“At a time when obesity is becoming a major issue across the UK, a quick, simple and free health check with us at the Show will give you a good indication of your own current status and we can then, if you wish, direct you towards services that can lead you towards a healthier lifestyle.”
Norfolk County Council recently announced that it was to continue providing funded places on both the MAN v FAT Football and MAN v FAT Challenge programmes. More than 840 men in the county have participated in the programmes so far, losing a combined total of 2251kg – or more than 354 stone – in weight in the last year alone.
MAN v FAT Football is an FA-affiliated scheme that currently has more than 8,000 players taking part in over 150 clubs across the UK. There are six clubs across Norfolk including two in Norwich, Thetford, two in King’s Lynn and one in Great Yarmouth. The total amount of weight lost by MAN v FAT players in the UK currently stands at almost 450,000 pounds.
As with MAN v FAT Football, with MAN v FAT Challenge men join a local team, weigh in remotely online, scoring points for weight loss whilst receiving support from a dedicated coach. Participants take on other teams in weekly challenges, and earn bonus points for the best entries, losing weight and improving their health, and achieving bonuses for weight loss milestones.
The MAN v FAT team will be working at the Royal Norfolk Show with a team from Thriving Workplaces, who will be on hand to talk about their workplace wellbeing offer.
