Purple Basil Heirloom Tomato Bruschetta

Get a bit more creative with your bruschetta by changing up the colors and flavors! This Purple Basil Heirloom Tomato Bruschetta is inspired by heirloom tomatoes and purple basil, which you can easily grow in your garden or find at many farmers markets. Heirloom tomatoes come in myriad colors, from green and purple to orange, yellow, and red. Purple basil (also called opal basil) has green and deep purple leaves, with purple flowers, making it a particularly pretty, sweet basil for appetizers, salads, and vegetable dishes. Make this recipe in 10 minutes with only 5 ingredients, not including pantry staples.

While I’m featuring a different variety of tomatoes and basil in this bruschetta recipe, it follows along with the Classic Bruschetta tradition, an Italian dish that is served frequently before meals with rustic toasted bread. You can use any type of tomato you like for this recipe, including red tomatoes, as well as any type of basil, such as sweet green basil. The choice is yours! Once you create a batch, keep it in the refrigerator and use it as a condiment for wraps, veggie-burgers, tofu scrambles,  and, of course, toasted whole grain bread. This easy recipe is also vegan, gluten-free, and added sugar-free.
