A few weeks ago, I seasoned these potatoes with homemade ranch seasoning mix, and oh my, they became next-level potatoes. We devoured every last crumb on the sheet pan!

These potatoes go with everything. I can’t think of any recipe these potatoes wouldn’t compliment perfectly. I’ll share my favorites below.
It uses homemade ranch seasoning. You don’t need to worry about extra additives or preservatives. This keeps this recipe a part of your clean eating diet.
You can make these potatoes ahead of time. I often make these potatoes on Sunday and store them in containers or meal prep bowls for the week. I’ll give more meal prep tips below.
Ingredients
Yellow potatoes – These potatoes are my favorite to use in this ranch roasted potatoes recipe. They are also called butter or Yukon gold potatoes.
Yellow potatoes have a creamy buttery inside and a thin skin that crisps nicely. They also don’t need to boil ahead of time.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil – This helps the potatoes to get brown and crisp. You can also use avocado oil or your favorite oil.
Homemade Ranch Seasoning Mix – These ranch potatoes use three tablespoons of homemade ranch mix. Of course, you can use a Hidden Valley Ranch packet or other store-bought ranch salad dressing mix.
However, I recommend making the homemade seasoning to keep these potatoes clean. Store any ranch mix leftovers in an airtight container and refrigerate.
FAQs
Yellow potatoes are the ones I like best.
You can use Russett potatoes in this recipe. These potatoes have thicker skin that crisps up nicely.
Red potatoes have more water, so they tend to get crumbly when roasted.
Overall, any potato will work, so use your favorite.
I’ve never boiled potatoes before roasting and there’s never been an issue with them being undercooked.
It’s essential to cut the potatoes into small-sized uniform pieces, so they cook evenly.
Cooking Notes
Don’t crowd the pan. Spread the seasoned potatoes into a single layer on a baking sheet. If the potatoes are too close together, they will steam instead of roasting, and won’t get brown and crispy.
Dress the roasted ranch potatoes up with melted cheese, sour cream, and bacon bits. We like to do this when serving these potatoes for a party.
Salt the potatoes after they are done roasting. Homemade ranch seasoning doesn’t contain a lot of salt, so you’ll most likely need to add extra salt after the potatoes are done roasting.
Spray the pan with cooking spray. Even though the olive oil coats the potatoes, I still spray the pan with cooking spray. This cooking tip helps keep the potatoes from sticking.
Use parchment paper. Another option to prevent the potatoes from sticking is to place parchment paper on the baking sheet before adding the ranch seasoned potatoes.

How to Make Ranch Roasted Potatoes
- Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.
- While the oven is heating up, clean the potatoes. Make sure all the dirt is gone from the skins. Then dry the potatoes thoroughly.
- Cut the potatoes into ½ inch chunks and add them to a large mixing bowl with the olive oil. Toss to coat the potatoes entirely in the oil and then add in the seasoning and toss again.
- Spread the potatoes evenly onto a baking sheet or in a baking pan and roast for 40 minutes or until the potatoes are brown and crispy.
- Taste for salt and adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Serve hot with your favorite main dish.

How to Store and Reheat Ranch Roasted Potatoes
For the week
You can refrigerate leftover ranch potatoes for 3-5 days. Use a shallow glass container for maximum freshness.
These also store nicely in meal prep bowls alongside a vegetable and a protein.
Reheat in the microwave for 1-3 minutes or until hot. For a crispy potato, heat up in a 350-degree oven for 10 – 15 minutes.
How to freeze
You can freeze ranch roasted potatoes for up to 3 months. After the potatoes are cool, place into freezer bags or container and freeze. Again, you can make individual freezer meals by freezing alongside a vegetable and protein.
Reheat in the microwave for 3-5 minutes or until hot or bake in a 350 degree oven for 15 – 20 minutes or until hot.
