Summer Solstice Smoothie

Happy Summer Solstice beautiful people! Happy International Yoga Day to all who practice!

Today, more than ever, I feel the need for something very nutritious, delicious and easy to make. A rich, flavorful smoothie comes to mind. No need to spend endless hours in the kitchen. Just gather all the ingredients, blend, and drink.

I used fresh and frozen fruit, and did not add any ice cubes. If you are using fresh fruit only, you may want to toss a few ice cubes to your blender to keep things cool on this first day of Summer.

  • 1 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1 cup frozen mango
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries
  • 4 apricots
  • 1 not too ripe banana
  • 1 golden kiwi
  • freshly pressed juice of 1 lime
  • 1 inch chunk fresh turmeric root
  • 1 tsp freshly ground pepper, plus some more for the garnish
  • pinch Celtic sea salt
  • 1 cup Thai style coconut milk, add more if necessary

  • Place fruits, turmeric, lime juice and coconut milk in a bowl of your blender and whiz until smooth. Add salt and pepper, and blend again.
  • Pour smoothie into glasses and garnish with freshly ground pepper. Enjoy in good company!

I hope you will try this recipe. I did not add any sweetener. Instead, I used fresh turmeric and pepper to create a quite unusual taste. The sweetness of ripe fruit harmonizes perfectly with the earthy taste of turmeric. Pepper adds unusual spiciness.

In this recipe I used pepper cuvée of three different kinds of pepper: Malabar black pepper seeds, Pippali pepper, green pepper berries, and red Kampot pepper.

Piperine, the active ingredient of black pepper helps absorb the nutrients, especially the curcumin from turmeric root, stimulates digestions, helps reduce inflammation, and supports blood circulation. Perfect spice for any raw food loving yogi.
