Simple ways to use up leftover rice

If you have leftover rice to use it can be hard to know what to make with it other than the exact same meal you just had. These ideas should help you.

Fried rice

This is one of the easiest ways to make use of leftover rice from other meals. To do this simply take your leftover rice and toss it into your wok or skillet with leftovers from your refrigerator like vegetables, scrambled eggs, and leftover meats.

These can then be fried up with some soy sauce and some of your favourite Asian spices for a quick and easy way to make the most of the leftovers in your refrigerator.

Make soup more filling

Add to soup to make it more filling. Many people think about using noodles to bulk up soups and help to make them more filling but another great option for this is to use rice.

Leftover rice from last night’s meal can go right into your soup for lunch or make it more filling. From chicken soup to fresh tomato soup the possibilities for this one are endless.

Rice pudding

This is a great option if you would like to make something fun. You can serve this for dessert or even make it for breakfast. Add-ins some sugar, milk, and your favourite sweet fillings like cinnamon, crushed nuts, raisins, chocolate spread or berries to dress it up for a fun treat.

Use your leftover rice as a filler

You can take leftover rice and add it as a filler to homemade burritos, use it for the binding in your next meatloaf, or even use it as a filler for other dishes that you would normally bulk up with bread crumbs.

Make stuffed peppers or mushrooms

One great way to make use of leftover rice is to add it to peppers, onions, and tomatoes to make the perfect filling for stuffed peppers and mushrooms. This is a great way to help encourage your family to eat more produce and to help bulk up a great meal on a budget.

Add rice to your favourite salad

You can mix leftover rice with your favourite vegetables, herbs, and dressing for a refreshing and healthy salad. You can use any combination of vegetables and herbs that you like, from cherry tomatoes and cucumbers to basil and parsley.

Add a simple vinaigrette or other dressing to bring the flavours together and allow the rice to bulk it.

Serve it with another dish

Many people do not realize just how many things go well with rice. You can serve your leftover rice with nearly anything from homemade beef stew to using a bed of leftover rice for fish or chicken.

Rice will soak up some of the justice or gravy of your main dish to add a fresh new flavour so your family won’t even realize it was the same rice that you served last night with your stir fry.
