Why getting your ‘pre baby body’ back shouldn’t be the goal

I won’t be getting my “pre-baby body” back, and frankly I’m not worried about it. My pre baby body was 26years old, training multiple times a day (as a PT and my own) and trying to work through / heal from a complex eating disorder that had started when I was 12. I don’t need that back in my life, physically, mentally or aesthetically.

Mums put such an insane amount of pressure on themselves to “bounce back” (I did so when I had my eldest – Jet) and look how they did before baby and whilst I can understand wanting to have yourself “back” again the reality is that the most incredible change has happened for your body – you grew life within you and your body is never the same after that.

You need to honour the rest and healing your body requires. Jumping into exercise and restricting your diet soon after birth to get your body back can cause far more harm than it’s worth. You risk long term injury, nutrient depletion at a time when some of the nutrient demands are even HIGHER than in pregnancy, hormonal imbalance and mental stress and anxiety.

Can I tell you from a professional and personal experience – it isn’t worth it.

Please mumma bears out there, be patient, gentle and kind to yourself. You need to look after you so you’re able to look after others- those divine tiny humans you created. Don’t compare your post birth journey to anyone else’s either, just focus on what is best and most supportive for you.
